MG ESSENCE · Proportion & Precision

Stone Ratio & Proportion Mastery

True luxury is not defined by carat weight alone. It is defined by proportion. The length-to-width ratio of a gemstone determines how it appears on the hand, how it reflects light, and how balanced it feels visually.

At MG ESSENCE, we prioritise optical harmony over inflated weight. Every selected stone must meet proportion standards that enhance brilliance, elegance, and presence.

Why Ratio Matters

Ratio controls balance. A stone that is too wide, too narrow, or poorly proportioned disrupts symmetry and weakens brilliance.

Correct proportions ensure light enters properly, reflects internally, and returns through the crown with intensity and fire.

A perfectly proportioned 2 carat stone will always outperform a poorly cut 3 carat stone.

Recommended Ratios

Round: 1.00 (Perfect symmetry)

Oval: 1.35 – 1.50 (Elegant elongation)

Emerald: 1.30 – 1.50 (Structured refinement)

Radiant: 1.20 – 1.35 (Balanced brilliance)

Cushion: 1.00 – 1.10 (Soft square proportion)

Princess: 1.00 – 1.05 (Sharp symmetry)

Pear: 1.45 – 1.65 (Graceful taper)

Marquise: 1.85 – 2.10 (Dramatic elongation)

Asscher: 1.00 (Architectural balance)

Ratios We Avoid

Stones outside optimal ranges often appear bulky, narrow, or visually unstable. Excessively stretched cuts can reduce brilliance, while overly compressed shapes lose elegance.

Some stones are cut to retain additional carat weight rather than maximise beauty. At MG ESSENCE, aesthetic performance always comes first.

Oval: Below 1.30 or above 1.55

Emerald: Below 1.25 or above 1.60

Cushion: Above 1.15

Pear: Below 1.40 or above 1.75

Marquise: Below 1.75 or above 2.25

Our Standard

Every MG ESSENCE stone is evaluated not only by clarity and brilliance, but by proportion, depth alignment, and structural symmetry.

The objective is simple: create a piece that feels balanced, reflects light with intensity, and presents confidently on the hand.

Precision is not optional. It is our foundation.
