MG ESSENCE · Diamond Selection Mastery

Why You Should Always Choose D–F Colour & VS1–VVS1 Clarity

Diamond quality is not about numbers on a certificate. It is about how the stone behaves in real light, on real skin, over a lifetime of wear.

You may think lower grades are “good enough”. You may feel the difference is invisible. And it’s fine to think that — until you understand what elite stones actually do differently.

1. D–F Colour Is About Purity, Not Status

D, E, and F colour diamonds are classified as colourless — meaning they contain no detectable warmth when viewed face-up.

This matters because diamonds are mirrors. Any hint of colour interferes with light return, softens brilliance, and dulls contrast.

You may ask: “Can’t lower colour look white once set?” Sometimes — briefly. But under natural daylight, side angles, and long-term wear, warmth always reveals itself.

Fact: The human eye is far more sensitive to colour than inclusions — especially in stones above 1.50ct.

2. VS1–VVS1 Clarity Preserves Fire & Depth

Clarity is not about perfection — it is about uninterrupted light travel.

VS1 to VVS1 diamonds contain inclusions that are either extremely difficult or virtually impossible to see without magnification. This allows light to enter, refract, and return cleanly.

You may think: “If I can’t see inclusions, why pay more?” Because inclusions don’t just affect visibility — they affect brilliance architecture.

Fact: Inclusions located beneath the table or near the pavilion can disrupt light performance even when not visible to the naked eye.

3. Higher Grades Age Better Over Time

Diamonds are worn, cleaned, resized, and passed down. Over time, clarity and colour become more noticeable — not less.

Lower colour stones tend to show warmth more clearly as metal wears. Lower clarity stones are more prone to visible inclusions after years of micro-scratching and reflection changes.

Clients who think long-term — heirlooms, not moments — naturally gravitate toward higher grades.

Diamond Grade Comparison

Grade Range Visual Performance Longevity MG ESSENCE Recommendation
D–F / VS1–VVS1 Maximum brilliance, no warmth Excellent ✔ Always Preferred
G–H / VS2 Slight warmth under light Good Situational
I+ / SI Visible softness Moderate ✖ Not Recommended

Is It Always Necessary?

No — and we are honest about that.

If budget is the priority and size outweighs refinement, there are cases where compromise makes sense. And that is perfectly fine.

However, if the goal is excellence, emotional impact, and timeless beauty — D–F colour and VS1–VVS1 clarity are non-negotiable.

Our Position at MG ESSENCE

We do not recommend grades based on trends. We recommend them based on performance, longevity, and how a diamond truly behaves in real life.

D–F colour and VS1–VVS1 clarity are not about status. They are about confidence — knowing your stone will always look exceptional, in every light, at every angle.

If you are investing in a diamond meant to represent forever, choose the grades that respect that commitment.
